Trikora Monument


Travel Information
Lembeh Island is about a 10-minute motorboat ride from Bitung. You can board the motorboat at the Bitung-Lembeh crossing port or Bitung ferry terminal.
Motorcycle Crossing: Rp. 15,000, landing at Batulubang Port.
Car Crossing: Rp. 20,000 via ferry, landing at Papusungan Ferry Dock.
Historical Significance
After the Round Table Conference (RTC) in The Hague in 1949, the result required the return of Western New Guinea to Indonesia. However, the Dutch delayed this transfer until the 1970s. In 1958-1959, troops were deployed to reclaim Western New Guinea under the command of Colonel Soeharto, using Lembeh Island as their base.
Monument Details
Construction: The Trikora Monument was built as a symbol of historical appreciation.
Dimensions:
Height: 9 meters
Sides: 12 meters
Tower Height: 61 meters These measurements signify the coordination of the attack system on 9-12-1961 (December 9, 1961).
Historical Event: In 1962, about 500 Indonesian soldiers parachuted into the interior of Western New Guinea, which was still under Dutch control, to conduct reconnaissance.
Inscription
The monument features a quote from Soeharto, signed by him: "Melalui Trikora Wilayah Nusantara Utuh dan Sentosa" ("Through Trikora, the Archipelago is Whole and Prosperous").
Tugu Trikora is a monument established to commemorate the Tri Komando Rakyat (Trikora) action, located on Lembeh Island, Bitung. This monument is closely related to the liberation of Western New Guinea (Irian Barat) from Dutch control.
